OSD Summer Camps 2023

The Ohio School for the Deaf offers multiple summer camps for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, entering grades K-12, and live in Ohio. 

All camps are located on the OSD Campus and are Residential camps unless noted otherwise. Campers arrive Sunday before camp. All camp grades are the grade the camper will be entering in the Fall of 2023-2024.  

Each camp costs $30. Pay by credit card or money order.

JUNE 2023

June 6-9

Immersive in ASL camp    Grades 2-5 

This camp is FULL

Tiger, Bears and Lions...Oh My!  We'll take nature hikes, make crafts, and create movies.  Campers will need to bring old clothes and shoes.  Campers will improve their grammar and signing skills as well as expanding their vocabulary.  Pre-requisite for this camp: willingness to learn through play and make new friends!


Middle School Literacy    Grades 6-8

Explorers of Words: Middle school students will explore different genres of literature through reading, writing, and performing. We'll discover our inner authors, poets, performers and more through fun activities, such as:

  • Discussing short stories on people who have changed the world,
  • Learn about different types of poetry and create our own,

Making a play come alive through acting.


Drivers Education (2-week long camp)     High School students aged 15.5 to 17 years old

This camp is FULL

The camp will cover 24 hours of instruction and 8 hours of in-vehicle training for under 18 years. OSD Students with a temporary driving permit will have first priority to enroll in the camp. In the afternoons, students will meet up with tutors for instructional support. Topics will be include Navigate BMV website, Car Finance, Car Insurance, Car Detailing, and other related topics.

*Limited spots, OSD students prioritized*

June 12-16

Ohio Adventure  Camp  Grades 7-12

We will go on fun adventures in Ohio! We will explore these following places: a variety of Metroparks, crafts day, fire station, castles and many more! Yes, Ohio has castles! We will go on trips to explore and learn more about each place. Let’s explore O-HI-O together!

June 20-23

Math in Geography Camp    Grades 2-5

Math in Geography allows students broaden their math concepts being taught throughout the school year.  The activities will create a valuable time not only for practicing concepts but also to be better in social abilities and communication skills. A snapshot of daily program will be starting off with fun warm-up activities of brushing up their counting and/or measurement skills, and then do various hands-on group activities involving math in real-life applications with maps of OSD.  

 

DeafBlind Day Camp    Grades 3-10

Are you part of the Deaf community or the Blind community? Are you Deaf and Blind? This camp is for you! This is a day camp, and we will be having FUN! Enjoying the outdoors such as hiking, swimming, and learning things indoors like arts and crafts.  If you think this camp is for you, come and have fun with us.

June 26-30

Deaf Plus Elementary Day Camp    Grades K-5

This camp is FULL

Let's Camp! During this week-long camp, students will engage in activities that take us outside and engaging with nature! Activities will be structured around learning to love nature around us with a focus on teamwork and problem-solving. We'll explore our park trails, learn about animals we may encounter, create our own adventure map, cook camping food, and more!

JULY 2023

July 10-14

STEAM camp    Grades K-5

This camp is FULL

During this camp students will have the chance to be engaged in hands-on learning experiments. STEAM stands for: science, technology, engineering, art, and math. This camp will explore water days, color days, energy/construction days, and more! There will be so much fun and learning to be a part of

 

Lego Robotics Camp    Grades 6-12

Who would resist playing with LEGO? From toddler to High school, even in nursing home, everyone loves LEGO! We are providing a LEGO ROBOTIC CAMP for middle school and high school students! This camp involves some basic robotic building and coding skills, as well as mental challenges! Imagine playing with LEGO ROBOTIC for 6 hours every day for a week! The final championship competition will happen at the end of the week!

July 17-21

Ohio Adventure Camp    Grades 2-6

This camp is FULL

This camp is designed for students to explore what Ohio has to offer. Students will spend a significant time off campus taking in a wide variety of activities. From museums, to hikes, to caves, the possibilities are endless. The week will be packed with all kinds of fun adventures. 

 

Anime Immersion Camp    Grades 7-12

Enjoy reading and watching anime? Want to learn how to create a costume? Participants in this camp will include learning about the Asian influence and culture in the creation of anime, watching films and shows, reading and discussing anime literature and drawing and creating anime-inspired art. We will spend time learning techniques in creating our own anime costume, participating in our own cosplay!

July 24-28

Volleyball Camp    Grades 2-8

Volleyball fundamentals, learn to serve, pass, set, and spike. Come and learn to play for this week-long camp.  Activities include trips to explore sand volleyball, team building competitions, and individual skills growth.   

 

Soccer Camp    Grades 2-8

This camp is FULL

Elementary & Middle School students learning the basics of soccer. We work on skills and do drills to help them learn and improve. The earlier they learn soccer, the better than can play when they get older.
