October 2020 - Update
It is with much excitement, anticipation, and preparation that we share with you our plans for staff and students to return to our campuses. As promised, we met with Columbus Public Health recently and reviewed metrics to determine that we will open schools according to the following plans:
Staff will return to our campuses on Tuesday, October 13th and students will return on Monday, October 26th. Fridays will remain remote learning days for all students. We will also continue the full -time remote learning option throughout the remainder of the semester as many families have expressed desire for their children to stay fully remote and we want to honor the choice.
Our residential dorms will open on Sunday, November 15th for those families who choose to take advantage of this service and qualify according to our Residential Selection Policy. Residential living does increase the potential for contracting COVID-19, but we are putting in place many supports as advised by Cleveland Clinic, the Ohio Department of Health and Columbus Public Health to increase the safety of our residential students such as one student per bedroom, wearing of masks, and additional cleaning protocols.
Please contact our lead school administrators, Dr. Al LaBarre for OSD at email@example.com and Michelle Wagner for OSSB at firstname.lastname@example.org for school related questions. Contact Daniel Custer at email@example.com for questions related to dorms and residential living. Questions for the superintendent can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
Again, we look forward to being back on campus with students.
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! This school year we are starting school online through remote learning. Students should be ready to start classes on Tuesday, September 8. We are looking forward to welcoming your student(s) to a great year. It's not what we expected, but we are determined to have fun and keep learning!
The Columbus Public Health Department (CPH) and the Franklin County Health Department (FCHD) have issued specific recommendations due to the large number of positive cases of COVID-19 in our area of the state that unfortunately have a direct impact on our school plans for the fall. OSD is located in the jurisdiction of CPH and as a residential facility, we must carefully plan for the safety of students and staff.
The revised fall 2020 plans for OSD include:
- August 17th - staff return
- September 8th - students start school (all virtual learning for the first quarter)
On or about October 1st, evaluation of current conditions
- October 13 - staff return (all on campus)
- October 26, students return (all on campus)
This has been a very difficult decision. We want our school to open for students on campus but the current risk level is too great. Although we all would prefer to have students on campus to start the school year, we are excited for the new year to begin. We look forward to seeing everyone online to start and very soon back on campus.
Dr. Al LaBarre at OSD is the lead administrator who will be able to answer questions specific to our remote learning plan. Our social emotional learning team, led by Jason Franklin, will also be available to support families. Email addresses for these individuals are:
Dr. LaBarre – email@example.com
Mr. Franklin – firstname.lastname@example.org
